CHRISTCHURCH -- A group of burglars has taken advantage of warm weather to distract Christchurch gardeners and allegedly plunder their houses, police say. Police yesterday charged a 28-year-old man and two women, aged 21 and 22, with burglary after a spate of incidents. Detective Sergeant Don Fisher, of the LED Light Bulb SP50-3W Christchurch police, said further charges were pending.

"They allegedly drove around until they saw someone working in the garden," he said. "One would then engage the gardener in conversation while
embroidered patches the others would check out the property for open doors and windows, entering to take money, handbags, wallets and cellphones. Burglaries had been reported in Parklands, Bishopdale, Hornby and Opawa. Anyone who had property stolen while they were at home in the past few days should contact Fisher on 363 7400.
